Eagle not represented.
Kuna Update on the Ada County Paramedic lawsuit-Judge was in deliberation, looking for a ruling soon. Kuna expecting a positive outcome The local is expecting to start a PAC soon. The district is working on raising the current levy to assist in raising funds for a new station. Local will start negotiations soon. The city is looking to hire 6
McCall The Chief stepped down in May A very good relationship has been developed with the commission. They are confident that they will have a positive negotiation process when it begins. The district hired 3 new firefighters to cover the sick and injured . Contract negotiations to start soon. The local is looking at various contracts to craft their own. The district will be searching for a new chief in approx. 3 months.
Nampa Excellent working relationship with the Mayor, most of the council and administration. Monthly lunches with the Mayor and admin to discuss any issues in a casual manor. Broke ground on station 5. Hiring 12 firefighters, 4 of which will be paramedics. Sent councilman to fire ops 101. Had excellent feedback from him. Sent several members back to the academy for grant reviews. Relationship with Canyon County Paramedics getting better.
Gowen Field 13 out of 15 firefighters joined the union. Looking for the collective bargaining bill to be passed on the national level. Right now they do not have the right to bargain. Political action is very successful, both military and firefighters. Looking toward a change in admin to become more successful.
Meridian/NACFR
NACFR Starting negotiations-looking for a 1 year contract focusing on salaries Grievance with the Chief was dismissed. PAC will push for new commissioner’s seats as well as identifying candidates. Sending member to ALTS. Mike Basagno meeting regularly with the Chief. This has been helping the relationship. PAC- commissioners have agreed to a dues check off, PAC will be forming soon.
Meridian EMS- deputy Chief said Kuna FD “kicked ass” during presentation over the Ada County Paramedic issue. Meridian will possibly look at a contact service for transport if the ruling is not favorable. The Chief seems to be getting what the dept. needs so a close relationship with the Mayor has not been developed. Ground breaking for station5 expected in April of next year. 9-12 firefighters expected to be hired. The training tower behind station 1 almost complete. PAC up and running. Excellent reception from Mike Walker and Shaun Laughlin’s PAC presentation. Currently in the middle of negotiations. 2 year salary and benefits, 1 year salary only. Mayoral race this year/unopposed. Undecided if they will seek a candidate. The Mayor has not hurt them so far.
Caldwell 6 new firefighters hired- applying for a SAFR grant for 6 more. New impact fees going into effect to help with new stations and manning. Land being sought for new stations. New engine and ladder being looked at for the near future. Transitional light duty benefit- meaning, a FF has the option to work his/her regular shift hours in a light duty capacity or has the option to work days. They have found that FF return 17%-20% faster if they can remain involved in their regular shift routine and training. Looking to try and get a dedicated truck company established. Trying to negotiate better sick leave and raising comp time caps. City has agreed to a PAC dues check off. Will be setting one up soon. Watching the EMS issue in Ada County close. May put a BLS car in service. Middleton and Caldwell discussing a merger.
